• The Winter Writing Challenge

    Lakenehath Library Presents Another Superb Activity

    Everyone is welcome to enter a competition to write a short story based around the theme of winter. As long as it links to the general theme of winter and is no longer than two sides of A4, it can be about anything!

    The Winter Writing Challenge is open to all ages, divided into three categories:

    • under 8’s,

    • 8-14 year olds

    • over 15s (including adults).

    The winner of each category will receive a copy of a bound book containing all the entries – with theirs highlighted as the winner. A fourth copy of the book will be entered into the library catalogue so everyone can read it. Winners will also receive a £20 book voucher.

    Story Writing Competition, 1st November 2014-6th January 2015

    The Friends of Lakenheath Library will judging and shortlisting the entries with library patron and local crime author Alison Bruce choosing the overall winner from each category. Alison has also agreed to write a preface for the book.

    There is an entry fee of a £1 donation to the Friends of Lakenheath Library. For further information pop in to Lakenheath Library or call 01842 860723 during opening hours.

    Another Oppoortunity to Be Heard

    Pigeon Investment Management Ltd in conjunction with the landowners of Lakenheath North will be promoting a residential developement that includes plans for education and community facilities. If the project goes ahead it will considerably extend the residential boundry to the north of the village.

    Those involved state they wish to work in a collaborative manner with the local community. As far as we've been able to determine the landowners of Lakenheath North include James Waters, Robert Rolph, Pam Cobbold, and Stephen, Stuart and Charlie Palmer [corrections welcome, Ed.].

  • Loan offer for the People's Project

    In a recent article published by the Bury Free Press, a loan has been offered to the People's Project by the Forest Heath District Council to help purchase the land where the ex Royal British Legion stands.

    At RSPB Lakenheath Fen

    Need somewhere to take the kids this half term? Learn about a wide variety of wildlife that live at Lakenheath Fen Nature Reserve. There will be a mixture of both indoor and outdoor activities, so fun will be had whatever the weather. No cost and no need to book. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

    Please note that there is a car parking charge for non-members.
